My brother’s Victor family of 5 was living in Kiev suburb named Chaiky, located right on the west city line. There's a little sport airfield and a few warehouses on his right side and strategic interstate road E40 on the left.
Long story short he was home when the initial war strikes began. My house located a few miles west but that area was attacked and the fight began near my home from the second day.
So Victor and the family - wife Lena, 2 toddlers Valeriya and Artyom and oldest son Yuri, who is totally and extremely disabled person (he’s mentally a 1 year old and have numerous diseases. He officially requires 24/7 supervision). The family was spending a week in his neighbors home basement and thinking this will blow over and realizing as the days passed, it's not a scare tactic. As they are hearing gun fire, rockets, bombs and deep soul screams from every direction, they prayed they will survive to see another amd praying they can atleast get out all while trying to calm their disabled child.
You can see at the pictures and video how bad it was. The home fires and destruction to houses located at 2 blocks from him.
So finally on March 2nd there was a temporary quiet and they used that time to flee and find shelter. They plan on going southwest hoping for an opportunity to leave the country.
The entire family with old dog loaded into a little old ford fiesta (a bit bigger than a “Smart”) and they took only their important documents and some clothes since there was no room for anything else and they have had no food and water. Actually they hadn't eaten at all during the week while they were under fire.
It took them 4 days to reach Lviv since they weren't driving the major roads bevause they didnt know what danger were on the roads and tried to avoid any places where the russians can possibly be.
There was no way for them to be anchored somewhere in western Ukraine, Yuri, their disabled son has too much special needs to be cared which was impossible at the little villages as he cant remain still, and where even to get hot water is a challenge. Lviv was totally crowded and there was no chance to find any kind housing for that big of family with a dog.
So they left the country and headed to Hamburg, Germany where they’re staying now a friend’s house (who Thank God, graciously accepted them)
They don't speak German or English, my brother and Lena were local blue collar hardworkers, not a kind of multilingual white collars. They didn’t have any savings and literally lived a very hard life and barely paying regular bills as medical care for their son was the majority expense. So for now they need help to get at least some clothing, food, medicine and medical support for Yuri. Obviously they can’t sit on their friend’s home forever and need housing as well.
German government will provide some social services soon but not sure how soon and they need medicine immediately and the support may be limited as there are many people who need help too.
For now they need help to merely survive before Victor and Lena will get a job there and we have no idea when it will happen.
We are appealing for any kind of help that can be provided for my brother’s family. I’ll wire all raised funds to his bank account and will clearly show all progress in updates here. We pray everyday that their situation and everybody else will get better.
We know that there are a lot of people that require help and we hope and pray that everyone can make it through as no one deserve this.
