HELP UKI HANES BEAT BRAIN CANCER!

A special love story...
I met my wife Uki in 1998 in Indonesia and it was love at first sight - the best thing that ever happened to a guy like me.

Uki is a caring and loving person who has done a great job raising our kids who love her very much, she loves cats, and luckily she loves me too.

Unfortunately last year after complaining of headaches, we decided to do an MRI to make sure it wasn't anything serious....boy were we surprised!

A brain tumor!  What do we do?

Uki had a craniotomy to get a sample of the tumor.  She was diagnosed with a Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Brain Tumor. Not a great diagnosis but not the worst and through it all she has kept her spirits up.

Since her diagnosis in June 2020 Uki has bravely managed a treatment plan of whole brain radiation and chemo. We all shaved our heads to support her, and she has been keeping her spirits up.

However, this treatment was not enough to beat the cancer, and now Uki is doing a new regime of higher dose chemo.   Cancer can be aggressive, and we need to get more aggressive to help Uki get better.

What’s next, and where we need your help

The next step in the treatment plan will be the hardest.  Once Uki finishes the high dose chemo she will need to travel from Indonesia where we live to a hospital in Malaysia, where she will receive still more chemo as well as a bone marrow transplant. We are very proud that our daughter will be the bone marrow donor.

Although these are very difficult treatments, the chances are high that we will beat this thing and Uki will be able to spend a nice long life with our family.

 Where we need your help.

The next level of treatment cannot be performed in Indonesia and requires us to travel to Malaysia within the next 2-4 weeks.  Uki’s immune system will be very compromised from all of the treatment, and her body will be much more vulnerable to infection.  Because of this we will need to secure special charter flights in traveling from Indonesia to Malaysia, particularly given the very real threat of COVID-19.  We will need to stay in Malaysia for 6-8 weeks while Uki completes the additional treatments.

The cost of these treatments and special travel accommodations to ensure Uki’s safety will be significant.  There are many expenses that won’t be covered by insurance and are frankly beyond our means.

I have been a little shy about this, but with the help of my sisters and my mother in the U.S., we have started this GoFundMe account to help us raise funds to help defray the costs of treatment during this very difficult time.  We could really use the help.   As with everyone I'm sure this Covid has really hurt us all.

We look forward to keeping you posted on Uki’s progress over the coming months, and we thank you in advance for any and allsupport or even prayers during this difficult time.

We appreciate your helping Uki beat cancer once and for all so she can return home to her loving family!
