Help UASCH Students Explore Healthcare in the UK

The Urban Assembly School for Collaborative Healthcare (UASCH) is a small Career and Technical Education (CTE) public high school located in Brooklyn, New York. Our school emphasizes literacy, math, and science as the foundations to careers in healthcare. Over the course of a four-year high school career, students have opportunities in their junior and senior years for extended blocks of STEM-focused work-based learning and early college articulated courses.
Our students have vocalized wanting to gain worldly experience outside of classroom limitations. Through our conversations, we find that many of them have not visited other countries besides their own, or even explored locally what our city has to offer. When we ask them what piques their interest in travel, their answers are consistent: to experience other foods, beliefs, music, art, languages, and overall lifestyles. In short, they want to travel to learn because “there is always more to know,” as one student put it - and one cannot argue with that logic.
That is why we have partnered with Educational First Tours (EF) to offer our first international trip. EF is a scholastic travel company that arranges academic tours all around the world. In Spring of 2025, 9 of our students will engage in a healthcare-related tour in England and Scotland. We will visit museums such as the Wellcome Collection and National Museum of Scotland. We will also visit medical institutions like The London School of Medicine and Dentistry for our students who are interested in studying abroad. Moreover, we will engage in healthcare-themed activities including a forensic science workshop and a lecture on Edinburgh’s grave robbing history. This trip will give them a chance to recognize how their lived experiences and perspectives have not only shaped their own identities, but how it contrasts with different people around the world. Overall, they will learn beyond the classroom because “there is always more to know.”
The knowledge that they acquire on the trip will further support their studies at UASCH. They will experience how medical fields work in other countries compared to the United States, offering multiple perspectives that help to broaden their capacity as global health agents of change.
In order to further support our students' travel experience, the $5,000 we fundraise will help with expenses abroad (such as tips, lunches, dinners, luggage fees, and emergency funds) to cover all of our students' needs. In addition, we will utilize a fraction of the money we fundraise to finance our local fundraising efforts within our community, which will go towards students' travel and lodging expenses. As a Title 1 school, we do our best to utilize Title 1 funds to enhance school services. However, there is great demand and limited financial means to send every student who wants to travel abroad on this inaugural trip. We represent hard-working families who want to give our children the world, literally. That’s where you can help. With your support, our students can see the world and expand their horizons.
This is an investment into our students' future and it is only possible with your support. Any contributions are greatly appreciated.
With gratitude,
Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of The Urban Assembly School for Collaborative Healthcare.
