Tyra's Fight with Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
My name is Tyra and I am a 55 Year old mother and grandmother. September of 2024 I was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic ovarian carcinoma. My cancer spread to 6 lymph nodes, my diaphragm and colon amongst other places. What should have been a 4 hour surgery turned into a "massive" 7 hour surgery. My incision is sternum to pelvis and I spent 7 days in the hospital. During this time I learned I have the brca2 gene which is what caused my cancer and puts me at a very high risk for breast cancer. My oncologists are recommending I have a double mastectomy this summer. My current diagnosis is that my scans are clear (ended chemo in February and have CT scans every 3 months) but I will never be in remission it's not if but rather when my cancer will return. The reoccurrence for my cancer is 12-15 months and we are hoping that the parp inhibitor will extend that to two years. I returned to work 16 days after my surgery because the state I live in doesn't provide temporary disability. In the 6 months of chemo and my surgery I used all of my sick and vacation time when I had my chemo sick days. I unfortunately don't have anything left in savings with my out of pocket for medical. The double mastectomy is going to put a big hardship on me financially, I am hoping to get back to work within 2 weeks of the surgery. My job does require regular use of my arms so I'll have to see how that goes. Please know this is a humble ask, an embarrassing ask, an ask I wouldn't do if I had another option. This cancer has robbed me of many things and I have done my best to be positive throughout but this next surgery has me a little stressed financially. Any help is appreciated and I will embrace your kindness towards me. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
