On a Tuesday night, 27-year-old Tyquann — healthy, full of life, and just starting his week — thought he was simply fighting off a cold. Within hours, everything changed.

He collapsed in the bathroom and was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance. While in the ER, he went unconscious two more times. At one point, his heart rate dropped into the 30s, and the medical team had to perform sternum rubs to try to wake him. We were terrified.

Things became even more alarming when they struggled to get blood from him — his veins had shut down so much that they had to use syringe suction to pull it out. After extensive tests, doctors diagnosed him with Rhabdomyolysis and Acute Kidney Injury, a life-threatening condition that can lead to kidney failure and other severe complications.

Tyquann spent time in the hospital receiving fluids and being closely monitored. While we’re grateful he’s finally home, he is still far from himself. His body is exhausted. Most days, he only wakes up to eat or drink before going back to bed. Still, he is doing his best to show up for his girls and be as present as he can during this tough recovery.

The road ahead will be slow, and he’s unable to return to work right now.
