Hi everyone! My name is Ty, and this June I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Palma de Mallorca, Spain for a study-abroad program (CIEE) where I will earn college credit while fully immersing myself in Spanish language and culture.
I’m currently a junior in high school at University Liggett School, and I’ve been studying Spanish since 2nd grade. After years of classes, vocabulary lists, and conversations in the classroom, I’ve learned something important: fluency doesn’t truly happen at a desk. It happens in real life. Living with a host family, speaking Spanish at meals, helping with daily routines, and navigating everyday situations will finally turn everything I’ve studied into real understanding.
I was awarded a 75% partial scholarship to attend the program, which I am incredibly grateful for. However, I still need help covering the cost of my flight, the rest of my tuition, and incidentals. That’s why I’m asking for support.
Why this matters:
Language immersion is the most effective way to achieve fluency. This program gives me daily conversation practice, cultural education, and college credit, all while preparing me for my future academic goals in public/international health and business. Understanding people across cultures is essential in those fields.
Why I’m committed:
I’ve spent years learning Spanish and consistently challenge myself academically. I plan to continue studying abroad in college, and this will be my first real step into global learning and independence.
Why your help matters:
This will be my first trip outside the country (Canada baaaarely counts!). For me, this isn’t just travel. It’s growth, confidence, and it's where the moments of learning becomes real life. I’ll be living with a host family, building relationships, and experiencing a world I’ve only read about. I want to come home not just remembering Spain, but changed by it.
Every donation, share, and word of encouragement helps me get one step closer to make this opportunity possible.
Thank you for believing in my education and future
