Help Tyler Hargrove Walk!

Donation protected

Tyler Hargrove is a dear friend to many, and those who know him are likely aware that he suffers daily from a condition in his ankle called osteoarthritis, which impairs his ability to walk, and makes even simple everyday tasks a challenge for him. After a serious ankle injury several years ago, doctors have concluded that there are only two possible common solutions to the pain Tyler experiences: either to have his ankle fused with no guarantee of successful pain relief, and potential need to amputate, or simply enduring it til medical technology advances enough to have a sure solution. Both ankle fusion and amputation are irreversible, and would mean that Tyler would not be a candidate for more effective ankle-replacement or treatments in the future. Having lived a very active lifestyle leading up to his injury, this has been a frustrating and discouraging obstacle for both Tyler and his wife, Elyse.

Recently, Tyler stumbled upon a newer prosthetic-orthotic device that would allow him to avoid ankle fusion surgery and regain his mobility. This device has been extremely impactful in the lives of those who have one, and Tyler is very excited at the prospect of receiving one himself.

Having applied and going to a consultation, I’m pleased to say that Tyler has qualified to be a recipient of this device, and is now in the process of getting fitted and taught how to use it. The total cost of getting this device is very close to the same price as the costs of an ankle fusion/amputation procedure. That said, there are going to be expenses involved.

With a new baby arriving very soon, Tyler and Elyse have been thoughtfully and joyfully preparing their home and finances to take on another family member. As friends of the Hargroves,we have a wonderful opportunity to help free them from the financial burden that this prosthetic brace will add to their lives.

ExoSym (the program Tyler is getting his device from) is a private-pay program. Fees for this program begin at $9,000, which will cover evaluation, casting, fabrication, fitting, functional training, and more. Additional fees may be added if the base device requires significant modification for the patient. Since the physical appointments are too far away to drive to, Tyler willneed to fly out and stay for several days while his device is delivered to him and he is re-trained to walk. The additional $1,000 accounts for travel expenses.

Please consider partnering in blessing the Hargroves in this way. Thank you for your contributions, friendship, and good will.
