Supporting Tyler’s Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Dear Community, Friends, and Family,
My name is Lisa and I’m doing this GoFundMe for a coworker and friend, Tyler Schell. I’ve known Tyler since he was 15 working with me at Pirates Cove Adventure Park. I now have the privilege of working with him and his classroom with Northwest Education Services. I am totally amazed at how he has grown into the wonderful man that he has become. Now he is facing a medical condition.
Here is his medical journey…
As some of you know, Tyler has been facing a serious health battle that began back in July. After experiencing significant pain, major weight loss, and low energy, Tyler underwent a series of medical evaluations that ultimately led to the discovery of a severe infection and a Colovesical Fistula (CVF) caused by diverticulitis.
On September 30th, Tyler underwent major surgery—a colon resection to remove his sigmoid colon along with a repair of his bladder. Though the surgery was necessary, it was rough, and Tyler spent three nights in the hospital before being discharged. However, just days later, during a follow-up appointment, it became clear that something was wrong. The surgeon noticed concerning fluid in his JP drain, leading to his immediate re-admission.
The following day, Tyler faced yet another invasive surgery to address a serious leak that had developed, a complication that could have been life-threatening if he hadn't had that follow-up appointment that day. Since then, his recovery has been filled with challenges, leading to an extended hospital stay. As of today (October 22), Tyler has been in the hospital for over 20 days—time away from his wife, Heather, and two children, Hayden and Emma that has taken an emotional and financial toll on their family.
As of now, Tyler is slowly starting to eat soft foods again, but still relies on a PICC line for nutrition, along with an ileostomy bag. Tyler will require an additional surgery in 2-3 months for reattachment of his intestines (reversal resection). This reversal resection will mean more time in the hospital (3-5 days if there are no complications), more medical bills, and more uncertainty for Tyler and his family.
We are starting this fundraiser to help alleviate some of the financial burden Tyler and his family are facing. Your contributions will go directly to Tyler and his family allowing them to focus on his healing without the weight of mounting bills.
No amount is too small, and every donation will make a difference. Whether you are able to donate or not, we ask that you please consider sharing this campaign with your network of family and friends and help us spread the word. Thank you for your support, love, and prayers during this challenging time.
Together, we can help Tyler and his family navigate this difficult journey.
With gratitude,
Lisa Lyon
