Help Tyler Kurtz with Medical and Care Costs

On October 12, Tyler had a manual neck adjustment done at the chiropractor which resulted in him having a stroke due to a vertebral artery dissection. Hearing that a healthy 34-year-old suffered a stroke is quite a shock and Tyler and his family are trying to make sense of what happened and what lies ahead for his recovery.

Tyler ended up having emergency brain surgery a few days after arriving in the hospital. Coming out of surgery, the surgeon shared concerns that Tyler may not wake up and if he did, he wasn’t sure what his condition would be. But Tyler is a fighter and his friends’ and family’s prayers were answered. He woke up, spoke immediately, and continued on his path to recovery!

On October 28, he was transported via a medical flight to Omaha, NE to be admitted into the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital. A couple days after arriving at Madonna, Tyler was admitted to the hospital after they discovered drainage from his incision at the back of his head. He spent more than two weeks in the ICU unit at the hospital to address the drainage and debilitating headaches Tyler was experiencing. He was finally released to Madonna on November 16.

Although insurance approved his stay and care at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, they have yet to approve the medical flight that was needed to transport Tyler. The flight was $29,000 and the family paid out of pocket to ensure Tyler has the best care and recovery options. In addition, his wife, parents, and brother have all made trips to Nebraska to support Tyler in his recovery and the family is facing unknown future costs related to recovery.
