Help Tyler Keep Remy Safe and Loved

Hi everybody! For anyone that doesn't know me but has found this my name is Tyler and I go to college for therapeutic horsemanship management. Don't worry if you have never heard of it, it is a up and coming major that teaches you the ins and outs of having and managing a therapeutic equestrian program. This can be riding therapies or ground work activities in things like trust and learning to make connections! I love my major very much and I see a very long and happy future in it. Through the school I attend I have gotten to work with A LOT of horses but havnt seen as many rescues as I would like to. Which is where the journey to making this gofundme started. A couple months ago myself and a friend of mine started the rescue process with a fantastic rescue in Maryland. After going through the entire process we got our dream horses. Now they have been with us (or really just me as she is out of state at the moment) and I have grown a love for her horse Remy. He is the definition of a gentle giant. Through some very unfortunate family matters my friends family is insistent that Remy be returned to the rescue as any horse adopted through them cannot be rehomed, sold, bred, anything. The rescue has agreed if I can come up with the funds to keep him long term they will make an exception to this rule and transfer his adoption contract over to me. This isn't something they do often and it was through watching me with my own adopted horse Clifford that they trust me with this. So now onto who this is all really about.
Remy is a 18-23 year old (no one knows his actual age for sure because he's a rescue) that weighs in at just short of 1600 pounds. He is generally well mannered on the ground especially for a draft horse. He is a percheron draft horse that I would be willing to bet was used as a work horse up until he lost sight in his right eye. As any horse or person would be losing half your sight especially at that size he is very timid with new people. The rescue told me that their head trainer took 6 weeks for him to let her on. A few days ago I took him out of the pasture for the first time to work with him. All I had was a saddle (with the stirrups way too long) and some reigns attached to his halter because I didn't think in a million years he'd let me on the first day. After only 30 minutes doing circles around the mounting block at his pace, he stopped and looked at me expectantly. I didn't believe him and told him to do another circle. He did another and landed in the same spot with the same look. After many more circles because of my own disbelief I finally gave into the look and hopped on. For the next 20-30 minutes we rode around essentially how a therapeutic lesson would go. At a nice slow pace, no mean bit hurting his mouth...and honestly a prayer that I could get down because he's right around 17 hands and I had no stirrups I could reach! He was a true gentleman and as we rode i decided I had to figure out a way to keep him. So I started this gofundme to hopefully help me keep him from going back. As sad as it is no one wants a half blind anxious horse, they want the big cantering jumper horse and he'll probably never be that. But he is a prime example of a perfect horse to practice everything I am learning and starting my therapeutic horse training journey. If you can help in anyway please do, I may only have a few days to raise enough for the first month which is right around 750 dollars. My ultimate goal is to overtime raise enough to keep him secure and safe in my care for at least the next 2 years! Any donation large or small is greatfully appreciated not only for myself but for remy aswell! Please know anything you donate with help give this amazing guy the purpose he deserves and help him reach his full potential that I know he can. Thank you!
