In early 2024, Tyler’s family first noticed a small lump in his neck. By January 2025, they visited the doctor and were told it was likely related to tonsillitis. However, Tyler’s mum trusted her instincts and took him to hospital for further tests. A decision that changed everything.
After a PET scan, MRI, CT scan, and biopsy, Tyler was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Within just ten days of receiving the news, he had a PICC line fitted and began his first round of chemotherapy. It was then that doctors confirmed the devastating news…..Tyler has stage 4 cancer.
The cancer has spread to his nose, throat, neck, collarbone, armpit, around his heart, major organ entry points, spleen, abdomen, and left shoulder blade. His treatment plan involves six months of chemotherapy, each round requiring hospital admission. He is expected to undergo a PET scan in November to see how successful the treatment has been, followed by up to three and a half weeks of radiotherapy.
The treatment has taken an enormous toll on Tyler, both mentally and physically. His strength has faded, and he now spends much of his time sleeping. Due to having no immune system, he spends around three weeks out of every month in hospital, often battling infections or high fevers.
Tyler has also had to face heartbreaking changes: the foods he once loved now make him feel sick, his body has changed, and he’s come to terms with losing his hair. At just 13 years old, he has endured more than any child should ever have to.
Through it all, Tyler continues to fight with incredible courage and resilience. But the emotional and financial strain on his family has been immense. His mum has had to take compassionate leave from work, which is unpaid, and the additional costs for travel, food, clothing, and special items for Tyler’s care (like a water dispenser, as he can’t drink tap water) have added up quickly.
As his mum describes, “People don’t realise the reality of what you’re going through — watching your child in pain and deteriorating is unbearable. Tyler’s whole life has been taken away from him. He’s terrified of infections, more so than the cancer itself.”
Tyler’s greatest wish is to visit Thailand and go fishing. To experience a little bit of childhood again, away from hospitals, pain, and worry. Sadly, this dream isn’t something his family can afford right now.
We’re hoping to raise funds to make Tyler’s wish come true. To give him a chance to create joyful memories, to laugh, and to simply be Tyler again, not just a cancer patient.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help bring this dream closer to reality. Your kindness and generosity mean more than words can express.
Tyler is currently part of two other GoFundMe pages. One was set up to cover the costs of adapting his room to make it accessible and comfortable as he continues his treatment. The other supports charitable causes close to his heart:
• One fund provides hampers and thoughtful gifts to brighten Tyler’s days.
• Another fund raises money for hospital charities — Abbey’s Heroes and Sophie’s Legacy — to help other children and families going through similar experiences.
This GoFundMe is completely separate and dedicated solely to helping Tyler fulfil his dream of travelling to Thailand. Every donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards making this wish a reality for him.
Your support means the world to Tyler and his family. Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for helping us make his wish come true.
