My name is Gary, and I am a close friend of Tyler’s granny. I have known Tyler his entire life and watched him grow into the strong, kind, and energetic young lad that so many people know and love today.
We are reaching out to ask for your support for an incredible young boy whose life changed forever following a devastating accident.
Tyler is a 13-year-old from Northern Ireland who lives life to the fullest. He loves MMA, boxing, and kickboxing, spending his time outdoors with friends and staying active whenever he can. He is a huge fan of Conor McGregor and has always shown the same fighting spirit and determination.
On 27th December, while out with friends, Tyler tragically fell through a roof. He was rushed to hospital where extensive scans revealed catastrophic injuries — five shattered vertebrae, broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a fractured skull, and two brain bleeds. Tyler underwent an emergency six-hour operation during which surgeons inserted two titanium rods and ten screws into his spine to stabilise his injuries.
Tyler has shown remarkable bravery and strength throughout this ordeal and has now begun the early stages of recovery. Sadly, he is currently paralysed from the navel down. While the future remains uncertain, Tyler and his family are holding on to hope. It is still very early in his journey, and with ongoing treatment, rehabilitation, and determination, they remain positive about what may be possible.
On 10th March, Tyler will travel to Stoke Mandeville Hospital, one of the UK’s leading spinal rehabilitation centres, for a week-long specialist assessment. Following this, he will return to continue treatment while a long-term rehabilitation plan is developed. The road ahead will involve months of hospital care, intensive physiotherapy, and significant lifestyle adjustments.
As Tyler’s circumstances have changed so dramatically, his family now faces many essential adaptations to support his daily life. These include modifying living spaces, purchasing specialist equipment and wheelchairs, adapting or replacing the family vehicle to allow wheelchair access and covering living expenses whilst overseas for his treatments. Funds raised will go directly toward helping Tyler and his family manage these life-changing needs and give him the best possible opportunity for independence and recovery.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children for the life-saving surgeries, exceptional care, and compassion they continue to provide to Tyler and his family during this incredibly difficult time.
Tyler is an amazing young lad with courage beyond his years — a true fighter beginning the toughest battle of his life. Any support, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would mean the world to Tyler and his family.
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to read Tyler’s story and for supporting his journey forward.
— Gary
