I am a long term foster with an amazing cat rescue called Kitten Rescue, which is a nonprofit cat rescue in Los Angeles. Kitten Rescue is a volunteer based organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. They rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia and they take in countless medical cases.
On January 20th, one of my foster kittens, Tyler, was diagnosed with dry FIP. A week later, his sister, Enid was diagnosed with wet FIP. Then 6 weeks later, their brother, Xavier, was also diagnosed with wet FIP. Dealing with three extremely sick kittens is not only heartbreaking and emotionally draining, but you feel completely helpless in this type of situation. Many sleepless nights are had.
Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease of cats caused by feline coronavirus. Please know that this type of coronavirus is different from the one that causes COVID-19 in humans. FIP emerges when feline coronaviruses mutate. FIP was once ALWAYS a death sentence, but luckily in recent years, medication is available and approved for use in the US that has a 85% cure rate. The medication is anywhere from $1500 - $2000 for the 6-12 week course of treatment and thank goodness the rescue is paying for the treatment to help with the financial undertaking. However, the cost of food, litter, supplements, heating pads, medical supplies now times three has greatly impacted my finances drastically. These costs are in addition to costs for my own kitties including a Senior cat that is suffering from seizures. Not to mention, the increase of food, gas, rent in general and just trying to survive in 2025.
My Venmo is below to make donating easy (and the preferred donation method). Any contribution, big or small, means the world to me and helps Tyler, Enid and Xavier on the road to recovery. I see there are many campaigns on here for those with FIP kitties, so if you cannot donate to mine, please consider donating to another FIP campaign. Without Kitten Rescue, these three wouldn't have a fighting chance so please head over to their site for more information on their rescue and to help where you can (kittenrescue.org). These kitties cannot beat this without us! I completely understand that not everyone can donate, and that’s okay :) Your love, and well wishes are just as important and deeply appreciated.
