Tyler’s Journey So Far ❤️

When Tyler was born, he spent his first few weeks in the PICU. After some time, Tyler began having regular seizures, particularly after feeding.

The doctors carried out countless tests, CT scans and MRIs, trying to find out what was causing these seizures. Unfortunately, despite all the testing, they were unable to give us any answers.

After trying several different medications, the hospital finally found one that helped control Tyler’s seizures. We were finally able to take our little boy home and have some time together as a family.

Unfortunately, that very night Tyler had another seizure, and we found ourselves right back where we started. After close monitoring in hospital, Tyler was eventually cleared to go home again.

For a little while, things seemed to be okay. Then, while we were driving along the highway in Bridgewater, we heard Tyler become very quiet. We turned around to check on him and found that he had turned blue and become extremely lethargic.

We immediately pulled over and began CPR because Tyler wasn't breathing.

The ambulance arrived, with the police assisting, and Tyler was rushed back to hospital.

A week later, while doctors were performing a gastroscopy on Tyler, he suddenly went into a Code Blue. The procedure had to be stopped and doctors immediately began CPR.

Once again, we were left with more questions than answers.

After countless conversations of hearing "we don't know" and "we can't tell you what's happening," the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne was contacted, and the decision was made that Tyler needed to be transferred there for specialist care.

We have now been told that Tyler will be transported to Melbourne when a bed becomes available. One parent will be able to fly with Tyler on the doctors' plane, while a support person will travel separately on a commercial flight.

We could be leaving as soon as today, tomorrow or sometime later this week. Unfortunately, we simply don't know exactly when that will happen or how long we will need to stay in Melbourne.

PTAS has kindly agreed to cover the cost of the flights and contribute towards accommodation. However, their accommodation assistance only covers part of the hotel costs. If Ronald McDonald House doesn't have a room available for us, we will be left having to pay the remaining accommodation costs ourselves each day.

And we have no idea how long we will need to be in Melbourne.

On top of accommodation, we will also have to cover food, taxis/Ubers and all of the other unexpected expenses that come with being away from home.

We just want to be able to stay by his side without having to worry about whether we can afford the next night's accommodation, how we're going to get to the hospital, or how we're going to cover the basic costs of living while we're away.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will mean more to our family than we could ever explain.
