As a Psychology student at Towson University, I have been granted many academic as well as personal experiences, offering the opportunity for growth and positive development.
My name is Tylar Constantine and I am a Sophomore here at TU. I graduated in 2019 from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. Being here at TU has given me the opportunity to explore my academic curiosities.
After being here for two years now, I realize how grateful I am for finding myself in such a positive environment. Early in 2020 after my first semester, I was showing progressive academic growth. This made me look forward to my second semester, but the disruption of COVID-19 caused an unexpected change.
With no other option but to leave campus and quarantine back at home, I figured I could use this isolation to hone my academic performance, but after a while, my household environment became tense, distracting and disruptive. My primary parent at the time began unleashing their pent up frustrations on myself and siblings, making quarantine and my distance learning experience disturbing and uneasy.
This behavior lasted for some time until May 2020, when the situation escalated, resulting in me becoming homeless as defined by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Fortunately, I was able to obtain emergency housing by moving back onto the TU campus, where I took a Summer Course, passing with an B average.
Though I was able to find my footing despite this adversity, the emergency housing came at a great expense, which I wasn't able to fund on my own due to my unexpected financial independence. Since becoming officially homeless, I have been doing everything in my power to find ways to lessen the cost of my tuition bill. I am also still seeking out those who feel called to support me in any way. Currently, my outstanding tuition bill is prohibiting me from enrolling in classes for this upcoming Spring 2021 semester. The last day to enroll for classes is January 28th 2021. If you, or anyone you know feels called to kindly contribute and support my academic career, please do. It would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you.
