I am raising funds to help support the higher education goals of two Rohingya refugee students, studying in Bangladesh. My contact there, who was born into the largest refugee camp in the world in the late 1990s, helps run a "learning center," a self-governed unofficial school for Rohingya by Rohingya, not run by authorities in Bangladesh, where students can attend classes. He is raising money to help two of his students continue their studies at a university in Chittagong, Bangladesh. For those who may be unaware, Rohingya are not allowed to leave the camps. Some Rohingya speak Bangla well enough and have physical features that are passable as Bangladeshi, and therefore they can leave the camps to attend university, where they register their nationality as Bangladeshi to avoid detection. These methods, with humanitarian assistance, are the only way Rohingya can seek higher education.
100% of the funds raised in this campaign will go to two students, whose identities will remain anonymous to protect their safety and their ability to remain enrolled in the university. They come from impoverished families, who have been selling their World Food Program rations to fund their education so far, and are yet still falling short. The two students are currently in their third semester, have produced promising results so far, and yet they will be unable to continue without a financial campaign to assist them. If we reach the goal, the students will have tuition, food, and housing costs fully covered for their remaining time in university. With this money, we will fund two more years of their education and make the attainment of their degrees possible.
In the US, our borders are now closed to hardworking young refugees who seek a better life through education, but there are many of us who disagree with this policy, and our hearts remain open. If this describes you, this is a cause that you should consider supporting.
If you require further information from me, please don't hesitate to contact me. I would be happy to connect you to my friend in the camp who is spearheading this effort to support his students.
