Support Two Black Pregnant Women Unjustly Fired from the Greater Providence YMCA
This Black History Month, the Greater Providence YMCA made a devastating decision: they eliminated 13 maintenance positions—12 of which were held by Black employees—while hiring a new COO at an egregious salary. Among those affected were two Black pregnant women, both now facing sudden unemployment just as they prepared to welcome new life.
Their benefits will be cut off on February 28th—the same day one of them was supposed to begin maternity leave. Instead of the security they worked for, they’re now left without income, healthcare, or the stability they and their babies deserve.
These women, who worked tirelessly to maintain a safe and welcoming space for the YMCA community, were discarded without regard for their livelihoods or well-being. Now, we’re asking for your help.
Every dollar donated will go directly to helping them afford basic necessities, medical care, and rent while they navigate this unexpected hardship.
Let’s show them that their community stands with them—even when their employer did not. Please donate and share.
