These two puppies are severely emaciated. Looking at their little bodies, I honestly cannot believe they’re still alive. I don’t know how they have the strength to stand and walk. They need urgent veterinary care, and I need help getting it for them.

I went to bring a bag of dog food to some puppies I heard needed feeding. I didn’t fully understand the situation, but bringing food was something I could do to help. When I saw them, there was no way I could leave without them. These babies need so much more than what I came to drop off.

One was dragging a chain, and the other was trying to eat old cat poop buried in the dirt. I don’t know if that’s how they’ve been surviving. They should be dragging toys around, not chains.

From what I understand, their owner passed away a couple of weeks ago. Someone has been feeding the feral cats out there, but I’m still finding out whether the puppies have been getting food and what has happened since their owner died. I also don’t know whether an illness could be part of why they’re this thin.

What worries me is that I can see their bones, but I can’t see what’s happening inside their little bodies. They need to be examined, have bloodwork done, and be tested for parasites. Hookworms can cause serious blood loss, especially in puppies. If either of these babies is dangerously anemic, they may need a blood transfusion along with treatment for whatever is causing it.

Depending on what the vet finds, they may need to stay in the hospital. Their bloodwork will also help the vet check their blood sugar, how their organs are doing, and whether they’re missing minerals their bodies need. They may need IV fluids for dehydration, glucose if their blood sugar is too low, or help staying warm if they can’t keep their temperature up. They could also need deworming, medicine for nausea or vomiting, and supplements to replace vitamins or minerals they’re lacking.

Even feeding them is something we need guidance on. When dogs have been severely malnourished, too much food too quickly can make them dangerously ill. That’s called refeeding syndrome. You want to give them everything when you see them this thin, but their bodies may not be able to handle that all at once. They may need carefully measured meals, a prescription veterinary diet, and repeated blood tests during those first days to make sure their bodies are handling the food safely.

I help animals as much as I possibly can, but I cannot cover this alone. There are two puppies who need examinations and tests, and we could be facing two hospital stays. I wasn’t expecting to take on all of this when I went to deliver food, but they’re with me now, and I want to be able to follow through with whatever care they need.

If both puppies need several days of emergency hospitalization, repeated bloodwork, and treatment, we could be looking at $5,000–$10,000 or more between them. I haven’t received their veterinary estimates yet, so that is a possibility I’m preparing for, not a quote from their vet. I’ll share their estimates and actual expenses as I get them.

Your donations will help cover their examinations, testing, any blood transfusions or hospitalization they need, medications, and follow-up appointments. They’ll also help me provide their food, any prescription diet the vet recommends, bedding, supplies, and their everyday needs while they recover in my care.

If you’d like to sponsor their ongoing care, please consider a monthly donation. Having that continued support helps me plan for their needs and keep caring for them beyond these first appointments. I’ll keep sharing updates so you can follow both puppies through their recovery and see what your help is doing for them.

A one-time donation helps too. You don’t have to cover an entire vet bill to help these two. Any amount you can give will contribute toward something they need, and if you can’t donate, please share their fundraiser.

Thank you for caring about these babies and helping me take care of them. There is still so much we need to find out, but getting them help cannot wait.

If donations exceed what these puppies need, the remaining funds will help other animals in need and go toward the rescue sanctuary I’ve been working on. There are so many animals needing help in my area, and I’m trying to build a place where I can do more for them.
