Help Two Disabled Trans Men Move to Safety
Donation protected
My name is Sloan, and I am raising funds on behalf of myself and my friend Charlie to move out of our parents’ homes. We are both disabled queer artists, and I am in between jobs while Charlie is forced to work freelance from home since his household has only one car and he’s been assigned to drive everyone else to and from their jobs, filling his schedule. Charlie has also been being emotionally and financially abused by his mother for over three years, being forced to use his own savings to pay for rent, bills, groceries, and repairs for his mother’s car despite his mother having stable income working in the insurance industry. Charlie’s mother has been requiring more money from him than he agreed to give her when he moved in in 2021, and his share of household finances is way out of proportion compared to his siblings who are all over 18 and employed. Charlie previously started his own GFM in 2023 [gofund.me/5c65ef49] but has been repeatedly forced to dip into those funds to cover household debt. Charlie will be closing this GFM and transferring anything left in it to my savings account where it will remain untouched until we reach our goal.
Charlie’s mother will be moving in October of this year and has been told by his younger siblings that their mother has been shit talking Charlie and trying to turn his siblings against him as of May, and we fear Charlie will either be kicked out in October or that the abuse will get worse in the new apartment. We’ve both been hesitant and embarrassed to ask for support but between Charlie’s mother stealing his commission earnings and me being between jobs again, we’re getting desperate with our deadline approaching. I am not confident that I can secure a job and get enough earnings before October with how much of a mess the job market is, and while I am in a far healthier household than Charlie currently, my parents’ transphobia and ableism makes me dissociate frequently leading to me constantly losing entire weeks at a time, making working to get out of here extremely frustrating. The reason it took me this long to start this GFM compared to Charlie’s despite planning to be roommates the entire time was due to me finishing college between 2023 and 2024, and losing my brother a few months after graduation leading to me losing most of last fall and the beginning of this year, and then of course losing my job. Charlie’s mother also did not force him to significantly dip into the GFM funds until around the time I graduated.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, even just a dollar. We’ve set our goal to $6k to cover an apartment deposit, the first two months of rent and utilities, and getting Charlie a used car. Charlie and I both have our illustration commissions open right now if you want artwork in exchange for your donation. Please inquire about commissions through our bluesky accounts [Charlie: gvr0beetl3.bsky.social, Sloan: s-harpermarcel.bsky.social]
