Twin Architects Masters Students Building Dreams in Fiji
Meet us, Anisha and Sowaibah Iqbal, a pair of 23-year-old twin architect students driven by a shared vision of combining design and compassion to make a lasting impact. We are both are passionate about sustainable architecture and community development, blending our technical expertise with a deep commitment to social change.
Our current dream is to build a health centre in the remote village of Fiji, a community lacking access to essential medical care. Inspired by our studies and volunteer work, we are determined to use our skills to create a space that is both functional and environmentally conscious, addressing the community’s urgent health needs while respecting its cultural heritage.
Our aim is to raise funds for this ambitious project, covering the costs of construction, materials, and working with other team members. This is a project initiated by the Fiji Government Department of Ministry of Health, to ensure that the worldwide Sustainable Urban Development Goals are achieved.
The design will include eco-friendly materials sourced locally. The project is to allow villagers to access medical aid at ease. By integrating local traditions into the architecture, our hope is to create a sense of ownership and pride among the villagers.
The funds will go towards the project cost and flights. Anything extra will be give to the village locals to contribute to children or vulnerable groups.
We will show proof of this via vlogs and updates. We have graduated with BSc Honours in Architecture and are currently doing our Masters at the University of Salford in Manchester. We want a taste of a real life project that impacts real people! We would be grateful for any contributions, as we come from a low - income background and want to make a difference.
We believe that architecture is more than buildings—it’s a tool for empowerment and transformation. With our boundless energy, creativity, and determination, our mission is to bridge the gap between design and humanity, leaving a legacy of hope in Fiji.
Thank you!
Anisha and Sowaibah Iqbal.
