Help Tux Get the Surgery He Needs to Live Pain-Free
Donation protected
A couple of months ago, a stray cat showed up at our house. He was very skinny and sick, but he had the sweetest and most affectionate personality. As soon as we took him in we realized there was something wrong with his mouth, he was drooling constantly and bleeding and had terrible breath. We couldn't bear to leave him outside, so we brought him indoors and named him Tuxedo. As we cared for him, we noticed that every time he ate, he would scream in pain. It broke our hearts, and we took him to the vet right away.
During Tux's visit to the vet, we found out he was abandoned, the vet told us he had been fixed previously which was an indication that he once had a home. The vet also informed us that he has a condition called stomatitis. This painful inflammation in his mouth makes eating unbearable for him, and the pain has gotten so bad that he has accidents daily. The vet gave us two options: have all of his teeth removed, which would cost about $2,620, or manage the pain with steroid injections every few weeks, costing $250 each time.
We tried the injections, and Tux was like a new cat—happy, playful, and pain-free. Every time we would get him injected the effects would wear off faster than the last. But when the injections wore off, the pain came back, and we realized we couldn’t keep up with the constant vet visits. After a lot of thought and discussion with the vet, we’ve decided that surgery is the best option for him. It’s a big expense for us, especially since I’m currently an unemployed full time student and my dad supports a household of four on his own.
We love Tux and want to give him the pain-free life he deserves. We’ve decided to officially adopt him, but we need your help to cover the cost of the surgery. Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward Tux’s medical care. Thank you for helping us give my sweet kitty the chance at a happy, healthy life.
