Help Tutu Transition to a Safe, Loving Home
Good morning, afternoon, or evening—whenever this finds you, thank you for reading.
Our beloved Tutu urgently needs our help. She has recently been diagnosed with advanced dementia, scoring just 8/30 on the SLUMS exam (a cognitive screening test used to assess memory and function—feel free to Google for more info). She is currently in a temporary rehabilitation facility, but she cannot stay there forever. Our goal is to transition her to a permanent, safe, and loving environment—either Assisted Living Memory Care or an Adult Family Home—closer to Portland and her friends.
But the situation is more complicated than we ever imagined.
We’ve discovered that Tutu has no savings, no assets, and no financial safety net. Her youngest son, Michael, is in hospice care and unable to help. His children, sadly, are also unavailable. Her eldest son, Scott, is not able to provide meaningful support. That means the overwhelming burden of care and decision-making has fallen entirely on Karin and a small circle of close friends.
They are working tirelessly, but they cannot do it alone.
We are raising $10,000 to cover the essential costs:
- Breaking down and clearing out her current home
- Placing Tutu and her partner Roger in a safe, secure new residence
- Finding loving homes for her dogs
- Covering hired help, supplies, transportation, and care-related costs
This isn’t just about logistics. It’s about dignity. It’s about giving Tutu the safe, joyful, supported life she deserves in her final years—surrounded by friends, comfort, and care.
The emotional and physical weight of this transition is immense. Your donation, no matter the size, will directly ease that burden and help carry Tutu into the next chapter of her life with love and compassion.
Please share this campaign widely, and thank you—truly—for standing with us during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Team Tutu
