On April 17, my brother and sister-in-law’s farm, Tulip Tree Gardens, was hit by a tornado. The damage was devastating: their historic barn, which they’ve been repairing for years, suffered the most. Over half the new roof was torn off, setting them back years in work. One of their silos was lifted over the pole barn and landed more than 1,000 feet away in the field. The farmstand roof was stripped, and the pole barn and overhead electrical lines sustained structural damage that’s only been temporarily repaired.
This past year has already been a whirlwind for Jesse and Rachael. After the DOGE cancellation of their LFPA contracts and other food assistance programs, they pivoted to focus on Food as Medicine programming and expanded on-farm events. Then, a hemp product ban passed in Congress, wiping out 90% of their wellness product compliance and forcing them to reformulate everything by November. Despite these setbacks, they remained excited to finish their event space and expand their offerings. But the tornado has made saving the historic barn a massive priority—without repairs in the coming weeks, the structure could be lost forever.
Jesse and Rachael have poured so much work, dedication, and love into Tulip Tree Gardens, always striving to uplift the community. Now, they need help to cover the cost of building materials—electrical lines, framing lumber, sheathing, siding, and roofing—to restore the farm and preserve its legacy. Any support you can offer, whether it’s a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or sending encouragement, is truly appreciated. Together, we can help them rebuild and continue their mission.
