My name is Cari, and Tula is my amazing dog.

She's only around five years old and was dumped by her previous owner, when they decided they no longer wanted to breed her anymore.

We found each other in December, and she has been by my side every day since.

This weekend, Tula's vet found multiple tumors in her mammary glands. Fortunately, they are small, but will require two surgeries (totaling $5000) to remove all of her mammary glands. Mammary tumors can grow very quickly, so the surgeries need to be done as soon as possible. More than a quarter of unspayed female dogs will develop a mammary tumor during their lifetime, and 50% of those are malignant. This is the reality of dogs that are used in a breeding situation, and abandoned without the veterinary care they need.

I lost my first dog, Toast, in September to an aggressive cancer after only six months together, and there was nothing anyone could do to save him. Tula's prognosis is good with surgery, and she deserves every chance to live a long and healthy life. The cost of these surgeries is just not something I was prepared for, and I've already drained my savings with her preliminary vet bills.
