Hi everyone,
Three months ago, I found a dog on pet finder and couldn't stop thinking about his sweet face, and I just felt called to him. I reached out to the owner of the shelter and found out that Tucker was two and had lived in the shelter his whole life. He was found at six months abandoned in a box with his siblings in the woods and he was the last of his litter to get adopted, and the longest resident at the shelter. He has never lived in a home, and I was hoping to provide him with the loving environment that he deserves. I made the decision to adopt him and got him on February 28th. I was told by the owner of the shelter that he was up to date on all of his shots and vaccines and that he was healthy. The day that I got him I instantly fell in love but I could tell when I brought him home he was not being taken care of. He was dirty, and had a very heavy coat that was un-brushed for what seemed like a very long time.
At what I thought was going to be a routine visit to the vet, so I could get him established at his new home-town clinic, I found out before I could get pet insurance, his blood work came back positive for heartworm, and he had a double ear infection.
Heartworm is serious, and deadly, and if the treatment plan is not completed he will die but it is treatable – the treatment, however, is long, intense, and expensive. Between the vet visits, medication, and follow-up care, the total cost is more than I can manage on my own right now. That’s why I’m asking for help.
Any amount you can give will go directly toward Tucker’s treatment and recovery and care. Even just sharing this campaign would mean the world to us and bringing awareness to this preventable illness. I know times are hard for many people, but if you’ve ever known the love of a dog, you’ll understand how much Tucker means to me.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. With your support, Tucker has a fighting chance – He is a curious, cuddly, sensitive, and loving dog who deserves to finally live a happy and healthy life in a loving home.
With love and gratitude,
Rachel & Tucker
