Help Tucker Fight Cancer

Tucker is the most loyal, loving, 65-pound lap dog anyone could ask for. The kind of dog you can’t help but love with his big soulful eyes and quirky, adorable personality. Tucker loves hiking with me, chasing squeaky toys, and making friends at dog parks. He always jumps between me and what he thinks is dangerous, whether it’s a dog bigger than he is or an unexpected armadillo.

He’s only 6 years old, but Tucker has a tumor growing on his ribs and has to have major surgery to remove it – they have to take out parts of his ribs, plus the surrounding tissue.

We won’t know what type of cancer it is until after it has been removed and analyzed, but it could be one of two things: a type of bone cancer that just needs to be removed and usually doesn’t come back, or a type of really bad bone cancer.

The vet asked me if I wanted Tucker to have the surgery, since if it’s the really bad kind of cancer he could only have a year to live. I didn’t even have to think about it – if a surgery gives me one more year of having Tucker then it’s worth it.

Even if it isn’t malignant, the veterinary surgeon said this tumor has to be removed because it will keep growing and eventually prevent Tucker from being able to breathe, and he’d have to be euthanized. The sooner it can be taken out the less invasive the surgery will have to be and the better the outlook for his recovery.

I can’t lose Tucker. He's a gentle soul and a big goofball. He’s my best friend and one third of our family pack (along with his little-big brother Max). I love him too much. He’s been by my side though good and bad times in my life and has only given me love and affection. And he’s a fighter! Tucker too young and too strong to be taken out by cancer.

A happy, energetic dog like Tucker doesn’t need a tumor that prevents him from breathing – he just needs an open field to run in and a squeaky toy to chase (and some treats to snack on). He’s going to get the best possible care so he can recover from this and go on to have a long and happy life.

The tests and treatment so far have cost $3,400. His surgery will cost $5,500. And, once we get the results back from the tumor’s analysis, if he needs radiation or chemo that could cost an additional $5,000. Facing a cost of potentially $14,000, I realized that I needed help to take care of Tucker. It’s more money than I have, so I’m asking you for help.

The good news is that it hasn’t spread anywhere else! At first the worry was it may have already spread to his lungs, which would have given him a really bad prognosis. But the veterinary surgeon determined that it hadn’t, so we’re not in the worst-case scenario!

Tucker is a strong dog and I know he can beat this if he has the right treatment. Please help me give him a fighting chance so he can have many more years of trails, treats, and tug-of-war with his pals.
