Who is Tucker?

Tucker is a 30 year old transgender artist from Kingston, NY with strong ties to the community (he's a member of both the local DSA and the Kingston Tenants Union). You might recognize his art from shop windows and local business's t-shirts, from his illustrations in the Wickedness RPG, or from College Humor's streaming series Mice and Murder. He's known that he's a transgender man since he was a teenager, but has never been able to access trans healthcare until this year—and even so, he needs your help to make it happen!

What is top surgery?

Transmasculine top surgery includes a range of procedures that remove the patient's breasts and reshapes their chest. If this fund hits its goal, Tucker will be receiving a double incision procedure from Dr. Rockmore. It's a low-risk surgery with phenomenally high satisfaction rates.

After the procedure, there will be a few days where he'll need to rent or borrow a recliner to sleep in at home, as he'll be unable to lie down until his chest heals, followed by a 2+ week recovery period. This fund will also serve to cover any follow-up visits Tucker may need and to cushion him financially while he's unable to work.

Why does Tucker need this?

Many transmasculine people will bind or otherwise disguise their chests to alleviate physical and social dysphoria, but Tucker's chest is so large that it's difficult to bind safely, which makes every facet of his life harder. Moving through a world that sees his chest instead of seeing him is difficult, depressing, and sometimes dangerous.

There are also more general medical considerations at play: Tucker suffers from harsh sleep apnea that can impair his day-to-day functioning for weeks at a time, and removing the foreign weight from his chest may help alleviate it. Additionally, breast cancer runs in his family, and the top surgery procedure will help mitigate that life-threating risk.
