Tsegabe Yerome is a 3-year-old child in Ethiopia who has been diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma,a type of cancer that is highly curable when treated early. As a former medical doctor from Ethiopia, I know firsthand how financial barriers can turn treatable illnesses into profound tragedies. Although I do not know Tsegabe or his family personally, hearing his story through the medical community deeply moved me, and I felt a human obligation to step in and help.
Tsegabe’s father, Dr. Yerome, is an Ethiopian physician. Despite his medical background, the staggering cost of specialized oncology care is an impossible hurdle for his family. Right now, Tsegabe is undergoing chemotherapy at Tibebe Ghion Hospital in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia. However, his long-term recovery requires specialized surgical intervention that is not available locally.
After reviewing his case, Apollo Hospital in India accepted Tsegabe for surgery and follow-up care. The medical team estimates the total care needs as follows:
Surgical Procedure & Hospital Stay (Apollo Hospital): ~$18,900 USD Chemotherapy Medications in India: ~$1,800–$2,000 USD (depending on the exact protocol)
Post-Operative Stay & Recovery: 3 to 5 months near the hospital in India, with guest house costs estimated at $22–$25 USD/day, plus daily living and grocery expenses.
Transparency & Fund Transfer Plan
To ensure full transparency for our donors and comply with GoFundMe's guidelines for international support:
1. My Role & Direct Contact: I reached out directly to Tsegabe's father, Dr. Yerome. With his explicit consent and request, I organized this GoFundMe campaign from here in the United States to bridge the gap, as direct GoFundMe withdrawals are not supported in Ethiopia.
2. How Funds Will Be Handled: All raised funds will be withdrawn into my secure U.S. bank account.
3. Direct Payment Execution: Per Dr. Yerome’s request, I will manage and pay for the medical, housing, and travel expenses directly from my account. Dr. Yerome will notify me in advance whenever a payment, hospital deposit, or housing fee is due, and I will issue the payments directly to the designated medical institutions, accommodation providers, or via direct wire transfer.
4. Regular Updates & Accountability: I will regularly post updates directly to this page—including bank transfer confirmations, receipt summaries, and medical updates from Dr. Yerome (with all personal account numbers redacted for privacy)—so every donor can trace exactly how their support is saving Tsegabe's life. Galatians 6:2 reminds us: "Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." This captures the heart of community action—taking a piece of someone else's heavy load so they don't have to carry it alone. Your generosity can give this sweet boy a fighting chance at a full recovery. Please donate, keep Tsegabe in your prayers, and share this fundraiser with your community. Thank you so much for your ongoing generosity. Blessings to you all!
