Hi! Our names are Carolina Miranzo and Oscar Fermosel and we're creating this fundraising because Trufa, the biggest piece of happiness in our lives, and also our little dog, is facing a difficult battle against hydrocephalus.

 

The hydrocephalus condition is a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the hollow places inside the brain. What this means, is that this extra fluid puts pressure on the brain and can cause brain damage. On the 12th of January, Trufa started showing symptoms of her condition making a turn for the worse and needed to be hospitalized immediately under intensive care. After a neurological examination, the neurologist told us that Trufa needed to have an emergency surgery ASAP to have a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (a medical device that relieves pressure on the brain caused by fluid accumulation) surgically placed in her brain.

 

Today, the 13th of January, Trufa is going through this procedure and we're only hoping that she can make it through as there's a 20-30% chance of complications during the surgery, and it's difficult to tell what complications she might run into if the procedure is successful. She can sustain brain damage, her brain can collapse in itself... but the neurologist has given us hope that she can also get back to her normal self and continue to live a great life.

 

Trufa is a tough cookie and has been fighting hard. The only thing that we want is to make sure we can give her a chance, an opportunity to make it through and live her best life. When we adopted her 2 years ago, she brought a lot of light and happiness to our life, so this is the least we can do.

 

This procedure and the after-care required are expensive and, even though we have pet insurance, it only covers around half of the total amount. We're willing to make any sacrifices required to cover these expenses, but we thought it would be worthwhile to reach out to the world and ask for help.

 

As of the 13th of January 2022, the estimated cost of the whole medical intervention that we have received from the vet hospital is $20,000 (if there aren't any post-surgery complications). Our insurance can cover up to $12,000 so in a best-case scenario, we're hoping to fundraise enough money to ensure that Trufa can recover properly and we can deal with any potential complications.

 

As we mentioned before, we're willing to make any sacrifices necessary to cover these costs ourselves, but it would be beautiful if we can get some help from you.

 

Trufa is a gorgeous 2 years old mix breed chihuahua, super-smart considering she has a peanut-size brain due to her condition, but above everything, she's our family. She has only brought love and joy to our lives, and hopefully, with your help, she will continue to do so for many more years.

Hola! Somos Carolina Miranzo y Óscar Fermosel y hemos creado esta recaudación de fondos  porque la alegría mas grande de nuestra vida, nuestra perrita Trufa, está luchando una batalla en estos momentos contra la hidrocefalia.

La hidrocefalia es una condición médica en la que hay una excesiva cantidad de fluido cerebral en el craneo, incrementando así la presión intracraneal. Como consecuencia de este aumento de presión, puede haber daños cerebrales.

El 12 de Enero, Trufa empezó a mostrar signos de un empeoramiento en su condición, necesitando ser ingresada en cuidados intensivos. Después de una valoración neurológica, la neuróloga nos dijo que Trufa necesitaba una cirugia urgente para insertarle quirurgicamente un drenaje ventriculoperitoneal en el cerebro (una válvula de drenaje que reduciría la presión en el cerebro causada por la acumulación de fluido).

Hoy, 13 de Enero, Trufa se está sometiendo a la intervención y nuestra esperanza es que pueda superarla con éxito, ya que hay un 20-30% de probabilidades de complicaciones durante la cirugía. Además, es difícil saber que complicaciones pueden surgir en el periodo post-operatorio. Hay posibilidad de daño cerebral permanente, o de que su cerebro colapse sobre sí mismo, pero la neurocirujana nos ha dado esperanzas de que si supera la operación, podría volver a llevar una vida plena y feliz.

Trufa es una luchadora, y está peleando para salir adelante. Lo único que nosotros queremos es asegurarnos que le damos la oportunidad que se merece para superar esta batalla y seguir siendo la perra feliz que siempre ha sido. Cuando la adoptamos hace dos años, llenó nuestras vidas de felicidad y amor, así que esto es lo mínimo que podemos hacer por ella.

Este procedimiento quirúrgico y los cuidados post-operatorios son caros, y aunque tenemos un seguro de mascotas, solamente cubre alrededor de la mitad. Nosotros estamos dispuestos a hacer cualquier sacrificio necesario para cubrir los gastos, pero pensamos que merecía la pena pedir ayuda. 

A día 13 de Enero de 2022, los costes estimados son de AUD$20.000 (dólares australianos, equivalente a unos 13.000€) en caso de que no haya complicaciones post-operatorias. Nuestro seguro puede cubrir hasta AUD$12.000, así que en el mejor de los casos, esperamos poder recaudar lo suficiente para cubrir la operación completa y los cuidados posteriores, así como cualquier complicación que pueda surgir.

Como ya hemos mencionado, estamos dispuestos a hacer todos los sacrificios necesarios para cubrir todos los gastos nosotros mismos, pero sería maravilloso contar con algo de vuestra ayuda.

Trufa es una mix de Chihuaha preciosa de 2 añitos, es extremadamente inteligente, considerando que tiene el cerebro de el tamaño de un cacahuete (debido a su condición), pero ante todo es un miembro de nuestra familia. Esperamos que con vuestra ayuda lo continúe siendo durante muchos años.
