Hi everybun!
Most of you know me as Brooklyn Bun Dad. If you're coming across this fundraiser, hi my name is JD, I'm a small animal rescuer in NYC.
In the last week, our sweet rabbit Trudy suddenly developed a mass in her throat, just under her dewlap. We rushed her to Dr Saver at Catnip & Carrots, where X-rays revealed the mass had wrapped around her trachea and was beginning to compromise her airway.
Because of how serious this is, Trudy was urgently referred to Long Island Veterinary Specialists, where she is being rushed into a coordinated emergency CT scan and surgery. The goal is to relieve the pressure on her airway as safely as possible and avoid multiple intubations, which would be extremely dangerous given her condition. Once she’s stable, a biopsy will help us understand what this mass is and why it grew so rapidly.
Although Trudy has handled anesthesia in the past, this time is much riskier. Her airway is already compromised, and senior rabbits can be more sensitive to anesthesia. She will remain hospitalized on oxygen while specialists monitor her closely.
Despite everything, Trudy is still eating, alert, and acting like herself, full of quiet strength and sweetness. We are staying hopeful and doing everything we can to give her the best chance to pull through.
Any support, whether it’s donations, sharing, and even rides out to Long Island means the world to us.
The deposit we paid down today just to ensure she could get the surgery will be added to the comments. This does not include any nights needed at the hospital and additional medications and care.
Thank you for keeping Trudy in your thoughts and for helping us fight for her.
