GPA 3.9 Medical Student – Needs Support by September to Start Clinical
Inspired by caring for my grandmother with diabetes and hypertension, I’ve dedicated myself to becoming a doctor. I now face losing two years of study unless I clear my tuition arrears by September 2025. Your support keeps my dream and Jamaica’s future healthcare alive.
My name is Trudi Ann Hamilton-Tyrell, and I am a second-year medical student at the Caribbean School of Medical Sciences, Jamaica (CSMSJ). Becoming a doctor has been my lifelong dream—not for prestige, but because of the difference I want to make in people’s lives.
My inspiration came from caring for my grandmother, who battled diabetes and hypertension. From accompanying her to medical visits, to helping with her medications, diet, and personal care, I saw firsthand the importance of compassionate, dedicated healthcare. Those experiences ignited my passion for medicine and my determination to serve others.
Since starting medical school in September 2022, I have worked hard and currently have a 3.9 GPA. Unfortunately, financial challenges forced me to take a one-year leave of absence. I resumed my studies in January 2023 determined to press forward, but I am now facing my greatest hurdle yet: I must clear USD $30,000 in tuition arrears to be allowed to begin my clinical training in September 2025.
The school has advised me that I am not allowed to take another leave of absence, because I already used the one permitted. If I cannot pay, I will be forced to withdraw and would have to start all over, re-doing the two years I have already completed. This would be a devastating loss of money, time, effort, and resources.
I have made every effort to cover my expenses. I applied for several scholarships, but unfortunately, none were awarded. I also applied for loans, but was denied due to repayment concerns. To help myself, I organized small fundraising events, including cake sales, while also working as a Receptionist at the Public Broadcasting Corporation of Jamaica (PBCJ). Despite my best efforts, these measures have not been enough. Once clinical rotations begin in September 2025, I will have to stop working.
Despite these setbacks, I remain committed to becoming a doctor, not just for myself, but for Jamaica. In my spare time, during Clinical I will be volunteering at my local clinic, old-age homes, and infirmaries, where I see every day the urgent need for more healthcare workers. My goal is to return to underserved communities and help strengthen Jamaica’s healthcare system.
I am humbly seeking your support to raise the $30,000 USD needed to settle my arrears.
Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings me closer to continuing my journey. Even if you cannot donate, sharing this campaign with others would mean the world to me.
Thank you for believing in me, my dream, and in the future of healthcare in Jamaica.
With deep gratitude,
