I could probably wax poetic about my husband being a wonderful father (we have eight children between the two of us), a good provider (gotta love the IT staff), and an all-around decent human being. But, the truth is, the man who captured my heart almost 15 years ago by making me laugh hasn't smiled in weeks and has just enough energy to make it to his treatment sessions. While the dog likes having a cuddle buddy, the whole situation is exhausting.

Troy never smoked a day in his life yet has acquired oropharyngeal cancer. However, the prognosis is good; the medical oncologist said the probability of a cure is reasonable. Treatment will span the next two months and consists of weekly chemotherapy and radiation five days per week.

Insurance has covered diagnostic biopsies and a portion of treatment expenses, but the bills will exceed the $5,000 maximum out-of-pocket costs. The financial stress that has accompanied this situation was unexpected. Troy apologizes to me almost daily (can you imagine someone apologizing for having cancer?). All money obtained from this fundraiser will go directly towards medical costs.
