Hi everyone, my name is Tammy and I'm fundraising for my older sister, Trisha. She is a hard working, single mother of a beautiful and smart teenage daughter, is a very proud woman (so asking for monetary help is very difficult for her) and who has been diagnosed with cancer and is unable to work her two jobs as she has done for years. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer in May of this year. Her doctor's moved quickly to get her into surgery as they found various cancerous tumors on some of her internal organs that could be problematic in the future. Once she had healed from her surgery, she began the tremendously exhausting radiation treatments daily for the next 5 weeks. She has finished her radiation treatments but that was only the beginning for her on this journey. She had some issues after radiation ceased with her body's compromised immune system and she has been suffering from various infections that just seemed to pop up. She is pretty limited to staying indoors and when she does have to leave her home she is required to wear a mask and sanitize everything as she interacts with the public. Currently, she has had some followup testing to see what the radiation did for her cancer. Unfortunately, she had new tumors on her internal organs again. More concerning is the tumor (doctors are waiting to see if this new tumor is cancerous) that caused her severe kidney infections and ultimately the reason her kidneys are functioning at approximately 50% to date. In addition to new tumors appearing, she was advised that the radiation did cause some damage to her bladder and stomach (two areas treatments were localized at). This has caused such a hardship for her as she is unable to eat so many "normal" foods that she enjoyed in the past. This has ultimately limited her to a small list of foods that do not cause her to get sick and a lot of fluids in hopes of keeping herself hydrated. Additionally, meal supplements assist her in getting the necessary nutrients to keep her strong enough to fight this fight.
She is fortunate to work for a company that allows her to work from home on a schedule that works with her various appointments and treatments. Her second job, however, requires her to be more physical and she cannot meet the physical demands they require so she has been solely relying on one income for the past few months which has caused financial strain for her.
Although she has been dealt this unfortunate hand with her health, she has remained positive and strong throughout it! She is a stubborn but beautiful soul and has been working as much as she can at home and all the while still caring for her daughter and ensuring her daughter's needs are met before her own, even with her diagnosis and the ups and downs she has faced.
We lost our mother to Uterine Cancer in 2012 and Trisha was the one who was there as our mothers health deteriorated and was basically with her 24/7 and her nurse when hospice nurses weren't around. All cancers are different but for me personally it's hard to know my sister is going through something similar BUT she is going through this difficult time with a humble aspect that there are many others that have it much worse than her and she has not asked for any help aside from rides to and from appointments. She is a strong, humble and kind person, and I truly believe she deserves any assistance we can provide for her. I would be greatly appreciative to be able to help her keep her mind off of the financial burden she's in so she can focus on her fight to get better. I know she would also be grateful even though she wouldn't ever ask directly.
