Hi! I’m trying to help raise funds for my sister, Trisha and her family. One month ago, my nephew Colin was admitted to the hospital for a significant bowel obstruction. Colin was a preemie, born at 25 weeks 23 years ago. He acquired spinal meningitis while in the NICU which resulted in long term Cerebral Palsy; suffering from chronic seizures. Through the course of his hospital stay his seizures became uncontrolled. On December 1st he was intubated and heavily sedated to try to control the seizures. The CCU he was in was not equipped to manage his neurological needs and we immediately requested a transfer. Due to hospitals being overwhelmed especially in critical care units, he spent 12 days on the vent waiting for a CCU bed to open up at a hospital that could manage his care safely.  A transfer was finally approved for him to be flown to Detroit Children’s. He is still there and it doesn’t appear as though this is going to be a short stay. With Colin having significant special needs he can not be left alone. Our family has been taking turns with helping cover long hours in the hospital making sure he has an advocate always at his bedside, while trying to offer respite for Trisha through this traumatic time. During one of the back and forth trips to the hospital, their wheel chair accessible van for Colin hit a deer and they have a $2,000 deductible. They are a single income family as Colin’s needs are 24/7. We could really use help to get their van fixed for reliable transportation to and from the hospital, money is getting tighter with the cost of fuel and food expenses, and lost wages while he has been hospitalized. Any help we could get to bless them and ease some of the financial burden during this time would be greatly appreciated. He is still intubated to date and we are hoping for sedation weaning to start this week.
