Help Trish Recover from Devastating Scam

I’m reaching out to ask for your help in supporting Trish, a kind and vulnerable physically disabled individual living in an assisted living facility on a very limited income. Recently, she fell victim to a sophisticated and heartless scam that wiped out her entire savings by parties pretending to represent her financial institution

These scammers were incredibly convincing. They had all her personal information and even answered her follow-up calls, presenting themselves as a legitimate organization. Trusting their assurances, Trish acted in good faith, believing she was resolving an urgent matter. Tragically, she later discovered it was a fraudulent scheme, and despite her efforts to report the scam to Chime, it’s unlikely she will recover the money. Chime performed perfunctory investigation (under 24 hours) and washed their hands of it issue. Trish is filing a police report as well as an online complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau(CFPB). However, these are both lengthy processes and the outcome is unlikely to make Trish whole. It is only likely to protect others. Trish had been using Chime since her her husband had been placed in an Alzheimer's facility & she became homeless. Bank accounts were not readily available to the homeless, and the Chime affiliation with Stride Bank and Banccorp lent a false sense of security. For six years it met the basic needs, but Trish has learned the difference between a FDIC insured bank and a "financial institution".

For someone with such limited resources, this loss is devastating. The money she was holding was her entire financial cushion, painstakingly put away for rent, her move and essential needs. Now, she’s facing the emotional and financial burden of starting over with no means to rebuild on her own. This is a giant financial burden and Trish has no resources to help her recoup.
