Help Trike Walk Strong: Surgery for a Brave Tripod Kitten
Hello, my name is Douglas Pieper, and I am a disabled combat veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Iraq war. Today, I’m reaching out not for myself, but for one of my youngest family members—my kitten, Trike.
Trike is a six-month-old male kitten with a huge heart and a love for life. He was born with a birth defect that left him missing one of his hind feet, making him a “tripod.” Despite this, Trike doesn’t let his challenges hold him back—he runs, plays, and keeps up with his five cat siblings, always showing incredible spirit and resilience.
Unfortunately, Trike now needs an additional surgery on his hind leg to correct a defect that, if left untreated, will impact his mobility and quality of life. I’ve committed to giving him the best chance at a long, healthy, and happy life, but as a veteran living on a fixed income, I’ve had to put this surgery on credit. While I’m determined to pay it off, the reality is that it will take me a long time, and the interest will add a heavy burden.
Trike isn’t alone in his fight—his brother, Farkle, is also undergoing surgery at the same time. Thankfully, Farkle’s procedure is being covered by the rescue organization he came from, and we are deeply grateful for their help. But Trike’s surgery falls entirely on me.
I am asking for your support to help cover the costs of Trike’s operation so that he can live his best life—running, playing, and being the joyful kitten he was meant to be. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference and helps ease the financial strain of the medical debt I face.
As someone who has dedicated my life to service, it is not easy for me to ask for help. But I know that together, with the kindness of others, we can give Trike the gift of a healthy future.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read our story. Whether you donate, share, or send us good thoughts, Trike and I are truly grateful.
With gratitude,
Douglas Pieper & Trike
