Trey VanWinkle, a 23 year old Florida resident and graduate of Paxton Buckley Loda High School, is deeply involved in the world of sports. He serves as a baseball coach at Countryside High School, an instructor at Pryor Baseball, works as an event coordinator and sales associate at Palm Beach Autographs, and is also part of the athletic department at the University of South Florida. His passion for sports extends across all areas of his life.

At the end of September, Trey traveled to Boston to visit some friends. During his stay, his life took an unexpected turn when he experienced several seizures. Fortunately, his friends recognized the seriousness of the situation and quickly got him the medical help he needed. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered a brain tumor that would require surgery. The exact diagnosis is still pending.

Trey will be returning home to Illinois to continue his treatment. He has an appointment at Northwestern on Monday, October 6, where he will undergo additional testing and schedule surgery to remove the brain tumor. Once the tumor is removed and biopsied, the next steps in his treatment plan will be determined.

The emotional impact has been significant, but the financial strain has also been overwhelming, as Trey is unable to work for an undetermined period. What is certain is that he will be recovering for at least a month after surgery and won’t be able to drive for a minimum of six months. Any funds raised will go directly toward covering medical expenses, medications, travel for treatment, lost income, and everyday living costs.
