This is for my beloved and most cherished Trevor. He is in critical condition and currently on mechanical ventilation after experiencing neurological issues. He started showing minimal odd signs of behavior slowly over time in the last month or so. In the last week, symptoms seem to have developed at a rapid pace. We’ve been to the vet 5 times just this month already doing blood work, X-rays, antibiotics, steroids, ear medications, anything we could think of and potentially rule out.

Then, he very rapidly declined. My options were minimal and I was not ready to give up on him. I knew I had to do something quickly, even without knowing how I was going to pay for it, so I put him in the car and drove him to UF in Gainesville. It was a two hour drive, and about 20 minutes from our destination, he suddenly started mouth breathing. I had to pull over to give him CPR. I rushed as quickly as I could the rest of the way. The emergency room team did CPR as well and got him stabilized.

He is now on mechanical ventilation for the night and will get an MRI tomorrow. I was told that due to his neurological issues, whatever they may be being caused by, this is impacting his ability to breath normally.

Each day of mechanical ventilation is expensive. Today I managed to pay the incredible amount of a deposit for the estimate for mechanical breathing treatment and MRI, and overnight ICU care, and without my incredible friends, followers, and just overall selfless kind humans that contributed, I truly could not have done this for him tonight and he would have been gone already.

The fundraiser amount is to cover what we hope is a couple of days of mechanical ventilation during MRI assessment, although there’s no way of knowing what is wrong or what will be needed yet.

We don’t know how far he will make it or if we can save him, but he deserves every opportunity to continue living.

He is a very handsome, perfect cat who wins over anyone who meets him. He is completely attached to my hip, loves to spend time with his dog sisters, and cuddles his mom every single night in bed, arms wrapped and all. He’s tough and stoic yet also the goofiest and most affectionate and loving cat I have truly ever met.

He is only 8 and such an irreplaceable part of my heart and family.

If you can help, even just by sharing this, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you for reading and for caring about Trevor. ❤️

4/28/26: I wanted to update everyone on Trevor now that we finally have answers from his MRI and everything the ICU team has found…

What they found is really severe. An infection started deep in his inner ears but has rapidly spread into his skull and around his brain. It’s quickly causing a lot of swelling and pressure, to the point where it’s affecting his ability to breathe on his own, which is why he’s currently on a ventilator.

It’s also spread into his jaw bone, which is why he can’t really open his mouth. That’s made even placing his breathing tube difficult, and if that tube comes out, they may not be able to get it back in. At that point, the only option would be a surgical airway in his neck just to keep him breathing.

On top of everything, he developed air around his lungs overnight, so they had to place a chest tube as well. It’s just been one thing after another.

The only possible treatment would be multiple major surgeries, including removing his ear canals to try to get rid of the source of infection, and another surgery on his jaw. Even then, the infection around his brain would still need time and antibiotics, and there are no guarantees that his brain function would recover or that he would ever be able to breathe on his own again or be the same cat.

The cost for all of this is around $25,000+, and even if that were possible, the reality is it would be a long, painful process for him with a very uncertain outcome…

After doing everything we could to get answers and explore every option, it’s become clear that the kindest thing we can do for him is to let him go peacefully. It was entirely worth confirming what was going on and seeing if there was anything we could realistically do that could save him… now we know just what and how bad it truly is.

This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to help us get answers and try everything we could for Trevor, everyone who shared his story, sent kind messages, or even just cared about him at all. It truly meant everything to me.

If anyone is able or willing to help with his final expenses, including euthanasia, cremation, and the remaining ICU costs, it would be deeply appreciated… But more than anything, thank you for loving him with me.

I’ll be driving back to Gainesville where he is in ICU (I’ve been reassured he is comfortable and at peace right now) to say my goodbyes to the greatest man of my life.
