A chance at a new beginning ended in heartbreak on August 2nd. My name is Arissa and I'm writing to ask for help for my friend of 40 years, Trent Aason.
At the beginning of last month, Trent moved with his partner from Portland, OR to Sacramento, CA. Within 48 hours, he flew to Houston, TX to move his mother Alice to California so she could join them for a new - and final - chapter.
Alice had recently undergone treatment for liver cancer which held off the disease, but only temporarily. There was no way of knowing how long this last chapter would be, but they were hoping for at least a year, maybe two – a little more time together, living as a family, making memories and saying goodbye. Tragically and unexpectedly, Alice passed away the very first night at their new apartment in Sacramento.
Not only is this a devastating loss emotionally, it has created a tremendous financial burden for Trent, who had just graduated from a culinary arts program. It was already a strain to cover the costs of moving his mom and her belongings, along with getting set up in a new city. Now added to that are cremation and memorial costs as well as shouldering the portion of the rent his mom's social security would have paid.
Please consider donating to help ease this painful time, where sadly grief is complicated by a lack of financial resources. All donations will go to directly to Trent to help him cover his mom's end-of-life expenses, moving costs, rent, food and other basic needs.
Thank you for reading. Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please consider passing this message along to your community.
