My name is Tanner Lightfoot. After losing my last two senior dogs earlier this year, I waited 3 months before I started to look for another dog to add to my life. I didn’t want to rush and needed the right fit. I found that fit at the Gladstone, Mo animal shelter in a beautiful young cane corso named Meredith. Meredith caught my eye as she reminded me of my late corso rescue Videl who passed away in August of 2023. I fell in love with her and still I waited two weeks to make sure it was the right fit.
I couldn’t deny the feeling I had so I went backs to adopt her on a Friday. Her spay was scheduled for today and I was so excited to pick her up this evening as I have been preparing for her for some time. I was called by the animal hospital to inform me that she is heart worm positive and her treatment is $1500.
I worked in animal rescue for ten years and have had multiple heartworm dogs, however I have never had to pay out of pocket for the procedure on a large dog. Unfortunately in today’s economy I just cannot afford a surprise of $1500 in order to adopt her. I hate to ask for a handout, but not as much as I hate the thought of her going back to the shelter untreated and more or less adding $1500 to her adoption fee. So here I am asking for help to treat this beautiful dogs heart worms so that I can give her the home she deserves. Thank you so much for your time reading this and your consideration whether donating or not.
