My name is Travis, and I’m reaching out for help after a series of devastating events that have left my kids and me with almost nothing. Back in August, my civil rights were violated despite having all the proper documentation for my emotional support animal. My landlord not only evicted us but also destroyed and publicly discarded many of our belongings, even though it’s against federal and state law to discriminate based on breed. The HUD and CRED have accepted my complaint, but the process is slow, and meanwhile, we’ve lost so much.
A kind hotel owner allowed us to stay and store what was left of our household items in his warehouse. I was working part-time at the Donoho Hotel and living there with my kids when, on November 11, 2025, a fire broke out. We barely escaped with our lives, thanks to the firefighters who rescued us and my ESA. Everything we cared about—personal documents, computers, family heirlooms, my kids’ belongings, and more—was lost in the fire. To make matters worse, the warehouse where the rest of our things were stored was broken into, and even more was stolen. My kids and I have been left with almost nothing, and the stress has taken a toll on my health. I was hospitalized overnight after the fire with a minor heart attack, and my children have been heartbroken and worried about my recovery.
Right now, our most urgent needs are clothing, help with a deposit and first month’s rent for a new apartment, food, and basic necessities. We’re also hoping to replace some of what was lost and may need legal help as we try to recover what we can. My kids aren’t even worried about Christmas—they just want to see me get better and for us to have a safe place to call home again. We’ve never had to ask for help like this before, but we believe that even a little support from each person can make a big difference. Any contribution would mean the world to us as we work to rebuild our lives.
