If you know Travis you know he is an extremely private person. He is an animal lover, amazing brother, uncle, and son. Travis has a heart of gold and would give everything he has to help someone in need.
A few months ago Travis was having lower back pain. He met with a doctor and they found a tumor located near his spine. They removed the tumor and found that it was malignant. The official diagnosis is a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor, or MPNST, it is a cancer of the cells that form the sheath that covers and protects peripheral nerves. Peripheral nerves are those outside of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). MPNST is a type of sarcoma. The only cure is complete resection (Removal).
Unfortunately, when they removed the tumor they were not able to get clear margins. Travis started radiation therapy right away. Right before Thanksgiving they did a CT scan and the doctor was concerned about some spots in his lung. They scheduled a PET CT and a biopsy.
The PET CT came back and his doctor feels the results are consistent with it being more MPNST's. Which means the cancer has spread. We will have this confirmed on the 22nd. After they confirm everything with the biopsy they will bring his results to the tumor board (a group of amazing doctors that are experts in cancer). They will decide what treatment options are available.
He is currently being treated at UCSF in San Francisco. The majority of his procedures are there or the USCF hospital in Berkeley. We know this battle he is facing will be taxing, physically, emotionally, and financially.
The reality that we are facing is that Travis has a rare and extremely aggressive cancer that has a hight rate of metastasis (spreading). The prognosis is not good, however, miracles do happen. Travis is just starting out on a journey that is going to be difficult and he could use all the support possible.
I know times are tough right now. I know it's right before the holidays. We appreciate anything even if it's just sharing this and saying a prayer for him.
