Help Transport a Surrendered Puppy to his New Forever Home.

Story time: I was driving through West Memphis, Arkansas when I felt an intuitive pull to turn into a neighborhood. At the end of the street I saw a stray black puppy in front of a house that was under construction. I had dog treats in the car, so I pulled into the driveway and started feeding the pup some treats.

His tail was wagging and I told him he was a good boy. As I said that, a woman emerged from behind some plywood. She said “that’s my dog.” I apologized and asked if I could give him some treats. She said “yes, that’s fine.” And we got to talking.

Her name is Kimberly and she described a domestic violence situation that resulted in her and the puppy sleeping outside for the past few weeks. The details were scary, so for the next few hours we used my phone to call women’s shelters and explore her options. We were offered five or six shelter opportunities, and bus tickets to her relatives. But unfortunately she declined every offer for her own reasons.

Dismayed that I wouldn’t be able to help Kimberly, I told her that my girlfriend and I shelter and re-home animals almost every month. And that if she ever needs help with her puppy I am there for her. I showed her pictures of all the animals we’ve fostered and she started crying. I told her “I’m sorry I didn’t mean to imply that I should take your dog.” And she said “No, I’m crying because earlier I prayed to an angel that someone would come help my puppy. And that’s when your car pulled into the driveway.”

She said the puppy deserves a better life. And asked me to take him. I promised I would take care of him and find him a forever home with someone I trust. Many tears were shed and she said goodbye to her puppy. She asked me to take some pictures of her with him.

I then drove him to the vet where they treated him for tapeworm, roundworms, and hookworms and gave him all his vaccines and heartworm prevention.

I sent a picture of the puppy to my girlfriend to let her know he would be at our house when she got home from work. And she said “My Aunt Nikki loves black pitbulls. Maybe she'd be interested.” I posted a photo of the puppy on my facebook and the first and only person to respond, was of course, Aunt Nikki!

She immediately felt a connection to the pup and agreed to adopt him. She is a former vet tech, animal lover, and I trust her dearly. She decided to name the puppy Laszlo, which suits him perfectly!

The only obstacle is that I live in Memphis and Aunt Nikki lives outside of Seattle Washington. 2,286 miles away.

So, to keep my promise to Kimberly, I’m going to personally drive the puppy from Memphis, Tennessee to Bellevue, Washington on February 15th, 2025. That’s where I need your help.

This GoFundMe is for the transportation cost of the puppy from Memphis to Seattle and then the return drive home to Memphis. It will cover gas, food, lodging, and any emergency car problems or emergency vet problems along the way.

Any un-used funds at the end of the trip will go directly to Miss Debb. Miss Debb is Kimberly’s 71-year-old neighbor who makes Kimberly breakfast and coffee every morning and has been a true guardian angel. Miss Debb has agreed to use these funds as she see’s fit for Kimberly’s wellbeing and her own wellbeing. (Please understand that many options were discussed and this was decided to be the safest because of the domestic violence situation.)

If you choose to support this, thank you from me, Kimberly, Miss Debb, Laszlo the Puppy, my girlfriend Kat, and Aunt Nikki.
