Kibera, Kenya’s largest informal settlement in Nairobi, is home to more than 250,000 residents. Despite deep economic challenges, it is a vibrant community where young people strive for a better future.
Your donation will go towards tuition fees and learning materials for girls who are a part of the Inter Base League - a football league and grassroots community organisation providing education for young girls. Any contribution is more than financial support - it is an investment in a young person’s future and a commitment to educational equity.
- In 2019, community leaders launched the Inter Base League (IBL), a youth football initiative using sport as a tool for social change. Beyond football, the IBL works to reduce crime and substance abuse, prevent teenage pregnancies, build social networks, promote environmental action, and, crucially, support access to education through school fee sponsorship.
- Until December 2024, the girls’ division was supported by the LA LIGA Foundation, which funded equipment, coaching, and education for hundreds of girls, enabling 22 to remain in secondary school. Due to budget cuts, this support ended, placing those students at risk of expulsion.
- Thanks to over 50 contributors, last year we raised funds for 28 girls to attend school. Four have since graduated with strong academic results. However, 24 girls now face an uncertain future without renewed support.
- Annual tuition costs are approximately €66 per student, a significant barrier for families in Kibera. Our goal is to raise €2,000 to secure education for these girls in 2025. Any additional funds will go toward uniforms, textbooks, and learning materials.
