My name is Karla Mi Lugo, also known as Faith Faucet and BETE LAPEL. I was hit by a car in NOLA in May 2021, and I have since been in recovery, transformation, and adjustment of my life's abilities. I have survived to live through new challenges and disability from many effects of that accident, including TBI, a broken neck bone, a broken pelvis, cranial hemorrhages, cranioplasty, CPTSD, and a few more things.
I have been blessed and lucky to have received funds for my recovery from an online fundraiser and some financial support because of hiring a lawyer to negotiate with insurance.
I have recovered with extraordinary luck and grace, but regardless of the miracle chances to survive such an accident and recovery, I am now faced with ongoing physical issues that do not allow me to live the culture-bearing and traveling life that I have lived in legacy of.
Months ago, I slipped and fell on a stairway, and my pelvis fractures opened up again and presented me with challenges and limitations as the bone marrow grows back again. I have my pelvis screwed together and have cranial pressure sensations since having a cranioplasty. Any funds that I had are now gone, and I am faced with physical, mental, and financial challenges to continue my life and life purpose.
I aspire to continue my life's work as a culture worker around the world. I cannot do this with any kind of job- and I cannot disregard my skills, work ethic, and dedication to community development with support, mentorship and creativity. I have not yet qualified for social security disability, but it is a large factor in my everyday life, so I seek alternative means to get income to live and funds in case of medical emergencies.
Regardless of the challenges we are all faced with in the world today, I still have such strong gifts, skills, ideas, and life purpose to work developing community and innovating with new creative social approaches. I aim to continue my active participation in cultural cultivation and collaborative creation The skills, humility, and dedication to craft is a cultural asset needed for the present and future circumstances of society.
I am seeking a community-funded culture worker grant to pilot launch income to support work for the next 2-3 years.
Please contribute to this fundraiser so I can continue to develop methods and means to be well and thrive despite any risk of physical or medical challenges during these unprecedented and uncertain times.
