Help Trans Medical Student Move for Residency
Donation protected
Hi y'all! If you haven't heard of me, my name is Ben Haseen and I am a graduating medical student from Morehouse School of Medicine. I'm very excited to be moving to Durham, North Carolina as part of the next part of my training at Duke University School of Medicine. I'm very excited to know that I matched at such a top-ranked program for my board certification training! However, I have no family up in Durham and I'm a child of working-class immigrants. I'm the oldest sibling in my family and the first to graduate college while also being the first ever in my family to graduate from medical school. I also have an extensive chosen family that I'll be leaving behind in Atlanta to be a new resident of Durham, NC.
In addition to being a medical student, I have a very prolific social media presence which I use for health equity, research, and health literacy teaching for not just patients but also other medical professionals. All of the content that I make however is completely free for people to view and access so I don't make a lot of income from that. In addition, my current student loans from being a medical student surpass over 300,000 in student loan debt. In my last year of medical school, in addition to doing my student clinical rotations. Every day after I get home from work, I spend time making money doing Uber deliveries. This has allowed me to save up quite substantially for my move because I was anticipating spending thousands of dollars after graduating. However, moving for residency training is so expensive that I still need to raise about 2,000 more. Thus, I am making this GoFundMe.
Your donation would mean a lot to me because it would lower the debt burden that I have currently. I have no generational wealth to lean on because I am an immigrant. I'm also a Bangladeshi American transgender person which has his own sets of challenges navigating the world being who I am. Community has always come forward for me whenever I have been in trouble, and I'm very grateful for that. I hope this would be the last time I'm ask for help before I embark on my first paid stable opportunity as a physician. I love you all and please please do not feel obligated to donate. If you don't have a lot. I can make do with additional loans, but not having any further debt would be a huge relief. I would be forever grateful to you for your donation or if you just choose to share this campaign.
Thank you and happy month of Ramadan for those who observe!
