Trans Man Hunted for Fighting for Human Dignity in Uganda
Donation protected
Friends, I am Rev. Lynn Kerr and this is Jay Mulucha.
The Problem:
The Ugandan Parliament passed a law making it illegal to be gay, not commit homosexual acts, but simply to be the beautiful person you were born as! Jay is a transgender Ugandan man whom my family "unofficially" adopted many years ago because his family disowned him. He is the Executive Director of FEM Alliance Uganda, an LGBTQ+ organization that provides vital services including shelter, food, clothing, counseling, and medicine.
The Urgency:
Because Jay is the Executive director of an NGO (which the government raided, shut down, and is now operating in a hidden location) that aids LGBTQ+ people and is Trans himself, he is wanted by the government. We have been putting him up in a secret location. He cannot even be out in the daytime for fear someone will pick him up. Friends report that police have been inquiring about his whereabouts. Many transgender members of their organization have been murdered and several are arrested daily. Jay has personally been arrested, beaten, raped, and left for dead by authorities.
The Need:
Jay cannot currently seek asylum due to the US President's halt on immigration. We ask that people who care about human dignity and worth contribute whatever you can, to help Jay stay in his safe location by helping to fund rent, food, and transportation as he continues to fight for his people.
My Plea:
Jay is currently on a "Wanted List" in the government for promoting homosexuality- punishable by execution. He has received death threats. Some 30 African countries have similar but not as harsh penalties. One cannot simply go across the border to a friendlier country. Jay has chosen to stay and help his friends and clients for as long as he can. Please pass this on to anyone who cares about the worth and dignity of all people and help save these incredibly brave and beautiful people.
Thank you for your generosity.
