Help Trans activist with stroke recovery
My name is Mayo al-Ali, a Syrian-Canadian trans-man and a pillar of the LGBT community here in Canada.
I was born on the 19th of May, 1966, in a female body, despite feeling like a I was male since the beginning of my early years.
Because of living in 4 Eastern Muslim countries, I couldn’t change my reality or my body, and during a tormented and muffled adolescence, I went through all kinds of psychological and physical torment, in addition to bullying, that continue on to this day because of health problems that I have (atrial fibrillation, asthma and my two strokes). I also suffer from PTSD and back pain.
After a long journey, I ended up in Canada, a country of safety, that accepted my asylum following my deportation from the Arab country where I was living, wherein I was imprisoned and tortured for my gender identity.
When I reached safety, I created a safe environment for everyone who suffered just like me, I was the father and brother, and provided counselling and social support to the LGBT community here in Canada. My door was open to everyone, 24/7, embracing them with love and tenderness for years.
Yes, I do receive aid from the government, but it does not cover all my needs now.
MY HEALTH NEEDS
This past year, my health troubled me. After a big asthma crisis, I was hospitalized for two strokes that made me half paralyzed and fearing for my life.
Because of my health issues, I am unable to transition and have surgery, which is why, as a trans man, I go through constant misgendering at the hospital (and in life in general) which has greatly affected my mental health.
I am now unable to take care of even myself. No one is able to help me with my necessary recovery except for my wife.
I need financial assistance to
- buy a wheel chair
- prepare my bathroom for disabled use
- intensive physiotherapy
- get an in-home nurse
- be able to afford healthy meals for high cholesterol
- get transportation appropriate for the disabled
- afford mental health therapy
- afford dental work.
I need your help and prayers. Please donate so that I am able to get on my feet again.
Love wins
Mayo
