My name is Tracy, I’m 47, and just a short while ago I received the devastating news that I have Motor Neurone Disease (MND) — the same cruel illness that took my mum 10 years ago.
I’ve since learned that I carry the familial C9 gene, which sadly means my condition will likely progress faster than most. Life has changed so quickly — I’ve already lost much of the use of my right hand, making everyday things like cutting up food or holding a camera almost impossible.
Until recently, I worked as a van driver for VW and as a wedding photographer — two jobs I absolutely loved. Capturing people’s happiest moments gave me so much joy and purpose. But MND has taken away my ability to work, and with that, a big part of our income. My husband will now be doing a lot of my care alongside the help we’ll receive from care services.
We’re doing everything we can to stay strong, but as my condition progresses, I’ll need some very specific equipment to help me stay comfortable, safe, and close to the person I love most.
I’m hoping to raise funds towards:
A special adapted wheelchair suited for MND progression
A rise and recline chair to help me sit and rest safely at home
And most importantly, a special double hospital-style bed, so that when the time comes, I won’t have to sleep apart from my husband.
These things mean more than comfort — they mean dignity, closeness, and independence in the time I have ahead.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even just send kind words, it would mean the world to us. Every bit of help will make this next chapter a little easier and allow me to keep hold of the things that matter most — love, laughter, and time together.
From the bottom of my heart,
Thank you.
Tracy
