Help Tracy Reclaim Her Strength and Independence

Hi my name is Susan Kirby & I’m not sure where to start the story about my little sister Tracy. Her name is Tracy Wagner, she is 54 yrs old & the baby of our family. Tracy never married or had children of her own, but she loves her family very much. Tracy worked for the post office for 28 years before she eventually had to unfortunately stop working due to rheumatoid arthritis & other health issues. She is too young for retirement benefits due to age & unfortunately was too prideful to ask for help.

She was rushed to the hospital on August 29 after falling very ill. She had recently had a toe amputated earlier in the week due to no circulation from the hips down, which she was unaware of at the time. She had a surgery that night because she had developed Fournier's gangrene & had necrotizing fasciitis. She was in ICU for almost 2 weeks & had more surgeries on her foot with more being removed. She also needs stents & bypass in both legs due to no circulation. She had a surgery to resection her bowels & received a colostomy bag. 2 days later, she had emergency surgery at 10 pm requiring a 12-inch incision in order to redo the original surgery issue. She also has COPD, high blood pressure, & diabetes. She now has been told her entire foot & up her leg to her ankle needs to be removed. This surgery will be done sometime this week.

The hospital has given her excellent care but wants her out as soon as possible because she has no insurance at all. Once the amputation is done, she will probably only be there for a few days. Once she’s out, we don’t know what to do without insurance & she needs physical therapy to learn how to walk again. She has been in bed, only sitting up for over three weeks now & cannot move on her own because of muscle loss & the infection in her body. She is still very weak. Our goal & of course hers too is to be able to walk again on her own with a prosthetic leg.
